The Association

The German Cocoa Trade Association was established in 1911 with the objective of safeguarding and promoting the common economic, political and traditional interests of its members in the cocoa trade.

28 companies are members of the association; cocoa trading companies and brokers as well as firms involved with the cocoa trade through warehousing, banking transactions, insurance, transport, inspection and other services.

The German Cocoa Trade Association acts on behalf of its members at regional, national and international level, notably vis à vis the Federal Ministry for Nutrition and Agriculture, the International Cocoa Organization and vis à vis the Federation of Cocoa Commerce, London in issues relating to contracts, and is firmly committed to the principle of free trade. As a consequence, special significance is placed on creating and upholding equal opportunities within the common European domestic market.

Every four years, the Cocoa Association has the honour of hosting the institutional “Cocoa Dinner” in Hamburg, which is attended by leading representatives of the international cocoa trade.

In partnership with the Bundesverband der Deutschen Suesswarenindustrie e.V. (confectionary association), the Association is the initiator of and in charge of the Stiftung der deutschen Kakao- und Schokoladenwirtschaft e.V., Hamburg/Bonn (Foundation of the German Cocoa and Chocolate Trade).
